Back-to-School BBQ and Ice Cream Social on August 10

Mark your calendars! The College Terrace Residents Association (CTRA) is hosting a neighborhood picnic/BBQ/ice cream social at Werry Park on Saturday, August 10th, from 4pm to 7pm.

Come out, meet your neighbors, and enjoy some old-fashioned College Terrace hospitality. Parents and kids: this is the perfect time to catch up with friends before school starts (yikes!) the following week. We’ll have music, field games, face painting, crafts, and much more.

This is a potluck so please bring dish or dessert to share. The CTRA will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, and an ice cream bar with ice cream and toppings. Please also bring your own plates, cups, and utensils; we’re trying to make this a zero-waste event!

Hope to see everyone there!

Help Plan the Summer Picnic!

Want to help make our neighborhood Summer picnic the best one yet? Come to this week’s CTRA board meeting on Wednesday, July 17, at 7:00pm at University Lutheran Church (1611 Stanford Ave at Bowdoin).

We’ll be planning our upcoming Summer/back-to-school picnic, currently scheduled for Saturday, August 10 at Werry Park. We’ll also discuss the next issue of our newsletter, Views from the Terrace, which is hand-delivered to every household in College Terrace. Read the full meeting agenda here.

All College Terrace residents are encouraged to attend. Hope to see you there!

Celebrate the 4th of July in College Terrace

Looking for some local fun this Independence Day? Come to the annual 4th of July block party on Columbia Street starting around 4:30pm. Bring something to cook and something to share, catch up with your neighbors, and enjoy live music from the Loose Ends band.

Kids are invited to take part in a 4th of July bike parade starting on Cornell Street at 4pm. Bring some red, white, and blue decorations to deck out your bike and then parade through the neighborhood, ending up at the Columbia Street block party.

Finally, as the sun goes down, head up to Kite Hill (at the top of California Avenue, beyond Amherst Street) where you’ll have a great vantage point for watching fireworks celebrations from around the Bay Area. There’s always a lively and friendly crowd on the hill and it’s a fantastic way to celebrate the holiday with your neighbors. Happy Fourth of July!

Celebrate Palo Alto’s 125th Birthday

This Sunday, April 28, the City of Palo Alto will celebrate its 125th birthday with a party at King Plaza (in front of City Hall). The event begins at 12:45 with musical performances, followed by a ceremony at 2pm. During the ceremony, the Palo Alto Historical Association will open a time capsule sealed 25 years ago. This and more will be followed by cupcakes and the opportunity to view the time capsule contents inside City Hall.

Bring a lawn chair and a hat and enjoy the opportunity to reflect on where we’ve been and where we are going as a community. In the meantime, you can brush up on the history of College Terrace (which is older than Palo Alto!) via our own history page.
