Back-to-School BBQ This Saturday!

Are you ready to party? The College Terrace Back-to-School BBQ and Ice Cream Social is this Saturday, August 10th, from 4pm to 7pm at Werry Park.

Bring a dish or dessert to share in our potluck while the CTRA provides hamburgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers hot off the grill, as well as an ice cream bar with plenty of toppings. Please also bring your own plates, cups, and utensils and let’s make this a zero-waste event!

We’ll have fun for the entire family, including a performance by legendary local musician Nancy Cassidy, a bounce house, field games, face painting, crafts, and more.

So come on over to Werry Park this Saturday, meet neighbors from across College Terrace, and enjoy the last weekend before school starts. Hope to see you there!

2019-2020 Parking Permit Renewals Begin

Some neighbors have reported receiving notice from the City that the renewal process for the College Terrace Residential Parking Permit Program (RPPP) is now open. Existing permits will expire on August 31, 2019. Vehicles displaying a permit from the previous year will not be cited during a grace period that runs until September 30.

The prices of residential parking permits and guest permits are unchanged from last year: both are $50 each. Daily guest permits also remain the same price: $5 per day. General information about the College Terrace Residential Parking Program can be found at paloalto.parkingguide.com.

Notification letters should include 3 items: a cover letter (“Dear College Terrace Resident”), a Permit Renewal form, and a First Time Permit Purchase Form. If you’re missing any of these, or have any questions about the program, please call (650) 329-2317 or email RevColl@CityofPaloAlto.org.

Nancy Cassidy to Perform at Back-to-School BBQ

Singer/songwriter Nancy Cassidy, who has been a neighborhood musical icon for many years, will be performing at our neighborhood Back-to-School BBQ and Ice Cream Social on Saturday, August 10, from 4pm to 7pm at Werry Park.

Nancy Cassidy has delighted audiences of all ages over the years with her warm and engaging voice and songs. She performs children’s folk songs and original songs. Visit her website to learn more and listen to some of her music.

In addition to Nancy’s performance, we will have fun for the whole family including field games, face painting, crafts, and more. The CTRA will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, as well as an ice cream bar with toppings. Please bring a dish or dessert to share, as well as your own plates, cups, and utensils so we can minimize waste.

Proposed Soil Cleanup At Merck

The San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board recently posted notice of a proposed soil cleanup plan at 901 S. California Ave. (near Cornell St.), which is the current location of Merck & Co. in the Stanford Research Park.

Soil, soil vapor, and ground water sampling at the site detected tetrachloroethene (PCE) above environmental screening levels. PCE is a commonly used solvent in the electronics industry and electronic companies operated at this site (prior to Merck) in the 1960s and 1970s.

The proposed soil cleanup plan is to excavate the affected soil and use trucks to remove it for offsite disposal. The plan anticipates the cleanup will take four to six weeks, during which time several trucks per hour will be used to remove the soil and bring in clean fill.

The public is invited to provide comments on the proposed cleanup plan by emailing Regional Water Board case manager Madeleine Little at madeleine.little@waterboards.ca.gov by August 16, 2019.

(Note: there is a broken link within the water board’s notice. Instead, you can click here to reach the summary page for this case, and then select “Site Maps / Documents” in the horizontal bar above the case summary to access specific documentation.)

We encourage any residents who have questions about the cleanup to submit comments before the August 16 deadline.
